Burgerlicious – Read Between the Buns
Check out some of our suggestions for Bermuda’s Best Burgers.
by Brigitta Wohlmuth
Honestly though, who doesn’t love a good burger? Bermudians are crazy about them and you’ll find at least one listed on most menus across the island. But if you need a recommendation first then try one of these beefy beauties…
Flanagan’s Irish Pub
This traditional Irish pub is a local favourite and has been around since the late 80s. Situated high above Hamilton’s Front Street, it has a nice view of the Harbour, and if you wish, you can sit outside on their spacious patio to enjoy the beautiful weather in June.
The food is awesome. Mostly pub style offerings, but they also have some local specials (they are popular for their Codfish and Potatoes breakfast on the weekends.) During the week it’s a nice spot for lunch or dinner. Lots of fish dishes, as well as pasta, curries, subs, salads and pot-pies make their menu pretty eclectic for a casual dining spot, and the burgers are delicious! Nothing beats a homemade burger, and these are char-grilled to perfection with all the right ingredients inside to make them extra flavorful and juicy. Flanagan’s also offers sliders, veggie burgers and a Caesar chicken burger – with romaine lettuce and caesar dressing on top.
It’s a lively spot too with great beer, wine and cocktails. They have a stage where you will sometimes see local artists, bands or DJ’s providing musical entertainment. Many locals come here for “pre-drinks” as it’s conveniently located close to the other bars and clubs on Front Street, where you can dance off some calories post dinner.
Wait, did I forget to mention that Flanagan’s is actually two bars under one roof? Sports fans can catch the game at the Outback Sports Bar – a separate area where you can eat, drink and enjoy major sporting events on large flat screen TVs.

Robin Hood Pub & Restaurant
This is another great pub patronized mostly by locals. Located on Richmond road, it’s one of the few casual dining venues within walking distance of Hamilton’s luxury hotels. Guests of the Hamilton Princess or the Royal Palms can easily find their way to Robin Hood for a little change of scenery (and a cheaper meal than they would normally find.)
As a Pub, Restaurant & Sports bar in one – it’s quite spacious with a large outdoor seating area that you can enjoy rain or shine. They have really yummy food and mouth-watering pizza. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner; they also boast an eclectic menu and have recently added some curry specials that are proving to be very popular says the Manager. The Hood Burger is super tasty and you can also order miniature burgers “by the shot”, if you wanted something lighter. They have two chicken burgers on their menu as well (one grilled the other breaded), a garden burger and a fish burger too.
This is another fun place to watch the game and mingle with locals. They frequently host fun events like their popular Tuesday Pub Quiz Night. This month you can watch the NBA playoffs or the UEFO Euro 2016 championship games on their plasma screens displayed throughout.

Zanzibar Tapas & Burger Bar at Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort and Spa
This new restaurant is located on Harbour Road, and like most hotels in Bermuda you don’t have to stay over-night to enjoy the Restaurants on site as a guest. Beau Rivage, the resort’s French-themed restaurant, attracts guests looking for the ultimate fine dining experience. However, management wanted to provide a causal alternative, so in 2015 they opened this cozy-but-chic tapas and burgers bar just next door.
Open daily from 5pm-11pm, Zanzibar is not a place you would go for lunch, rather the interior gives it more of a lounge like feel and it’s a great place to bring a date or group of friends for cocktails and lite bites. They started off with just Tapas, but found it wasn’t enough. Zanzibar’s menu now offers fourteen very interesting burgers that range greatly in price and flavour. Most impressive is certainly their deluxe Zanzibar Burger, made with Kobe beef, featuring a mouth-watering lump of foie gras in the middle. They also have on their menu a Morrocan Burger made with lamb, a Turkey burger and a Garden burger amongst many more beefy options including the two stunning numbers below. Just be sure to work up a good appetite before dinner, as these are NOT your ordinary burgers. They are massive! And you can be rest assured that you’re getting your money’s worth here. The manager was quick to assert that the dramatic presentation was not merely for our camera but that’s actually how they look every night!
