Spittal Pond, located in Smiths Parish, is the largest nature reserve and national park on the island. It spreads over some 64-acres of land area and features numerous habitats including salt marsh, dense woodland and mud flats. Look for Portuguese Rock, the oldest evidence of humans on the island
The reserve is a large bird sanctuary and one of the best bird watching locations in Bermuda. Most of the bird-life can be seen from the well marked loop trail from either the east or west car parks. Bus route 1 stops near both car parks.
