Legal requirements
To get married in Bermuda the couple must complete and send a “Notice of Intended Marriage” form (including full names and residential addresses) to the Bermuda Registrar General within 3 months of the intended wedding date. A fee of $243 (plus $24 for the certificate) in Bermuda or U.S. dollars in the form of a cashier’s cheque or bank draft made payable to the Accountant General, Hamilton, Bermuda, or by credit card must accompany the form. Personal cheques are not accepted. “Notice of Intended Marriage” forms available online from the Register General: www.registrygeneral.gov.bm.  Copies of final divorce decrees or death certificates must accompany the “Notice of Intended Marriage” form for all persons previously married before wishing to be married in Bermuda.  Please note that airmail to Bermuda can take from 6 to 14 days from the U.S., Canada and the U.K.

The Registry staff will publish the “Notice of Intended Marriage” twice in the Bermuda newspapers, the Bermuda Sun and the Royal Gazette. There is a waiting period of 15 days from the receipt date of the Notice by the Registry before the Registrar General will issue the licence to marry. Provided no formal objection has been raised to the intended marriage, the license will be issued. The license to marry is valid for three months from the date of issue.

Marriage Ceremonies
Marriages are performed by either a registered Marriage Officer of a Church or the Registrar or Assistant Registrar General for civil weddings at the Registry Office. Justices of the Peace are not authorized to perform weddings. Civil marriage ceremonies are conducted in the Registry General from Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Appointments are required.

Whatever your faith or denomination, Bermuda can accommodate your wedding wishes. Local wedding planners can organize the right church and minister to meet your needs. There are no rabbis in residence on the island but a wedding consultant can arrange the necessary paperwork for your rabbi to perform your ceremony.

It is possible for non-resident Roman Catholics to be married in certain Catholic Churches in Bermuda. Consult "Requirements for Non-resident Marriages" on the website of the Roman Catholic Church in Bermuda (www.dobcc.bm) for specific requirements.
