Bermuda is Tops Underwater

Bermuda is number one in the Caribbean and Atlantic for wreck diving according to Scuba Diving Magazine's Reader's Choice Awards.  To quote writer Peter Benchley, "the entire history of Bermuda can be documented by the hundreds of shipwrecks that lie in the coral reefs that ring the islands." Read more about shipwrecks.

We're not too shabby when it comes to snorkeling and beginners' diving either. Scuba Diving Magazine's 5,000 readers say Bermuda is number three in those two categories as well.  Discover Bermuda's underwater pleasures with one of the several dive companies who provide single or double-tank dives at locations throughout Bermuda’s waters. Diving at night adds yet more excitement to the thrills awaiting you below.

Helmet Diving is another way to see Bermuda’s underwater world.  It has been an exciting part of Bermuda’s water sports activities for almost 60 years. The undersea walk has been imitated in other islands, but it is best here in Bermuda. The helmet works like a glass turned upside down and lead holds the open end down. The air is cupped underneath as it simply rests on ones shoulders. Your head stays dry and you can wear glasses or contacts while you view the fascinating marine life in less than 15 feet of water. The ability to walk and breathe are the only requirements to experience our unique tropical reef ecosystem.

Bermuda's Newest Dive Sight ~ The Sea Venture Project ~

Bermuda's Marine and Ports Department offered an old ferry that could be used for a dive site if an appropriate location could be located and all required clearances obtained from other relevant Bermuda Government Authorities. The vessel is called The Sea Venture and is 75’ long with a beam of 21’.
The plan is to sink the vessel under controled conditions in a location that will not interfere with local shipping or be any kind of a navigation hazard. As proven in other projects of this type, the new wreck will become an artificial reef and a fantastic attraction for divers, adding even more significance to Bermuda as a dive destination for visitors. Volunteers are needed and diving skills are not required.

Hartley's Helmet Diving

Hartley’s Helmet Diving is Bermuda’s premier undersea walk. Greg Hartley, who’s family started helmet diving over 75 years ago, had his first dive at age 3. His friends, Stormin Norman the Snapper, Queen Latifa the Angelfish, Franklin the Goldentailed Moray, Gollum the Squirrelfish, E.T.Puffer and many more are all finning back and forth waiting for you. Their reef is just under 2 miles out, half way to the pristine waters of Bermuda’s barrier reef, yet only 10ft deep. Have your digital photo taken while holding Stormin. Great for all ages 5-85, meek or macho, certified or non-swimmers.
