Don’t want to fly? Then consider a cruise to Bermuda, about half of Bermuda's visitors arrive by sea. Several cruise lines operate cruises to Bermuda mainly from New York, but also from Boston, south Florida and the Caribbean. See the 2010 cruise ship schedule.
Most cruises to Bermuda dock at the recently built terminal at the Royal Naval Dockyard where two mega cruise liners can berth at one time. Smaller ships, dock in Hamilton and St. George’s or anchor nearby. All three ports have ferry and bus service, as well as private taxis, making it easy to get around Bermuda. Bermuda's fast ferries get you from Dockyard in the west end to St. George's in the east end in about 45 minutes; to Hamilton in 20 minutes.
Private Yachts
All private yachts are required to obtain Immigration, Customs, and Health Clearance in the port of St. George.
When approaching, visiting yachtsmen must contact Bermuda Harbour Radio, on VHF Channel 16, and list your approximate arrival time and any special needs you may have. They will guide you into St. George’s Harbour and direct you to Customs clearance berthing. Travelers should enter this port flying the yellow quarantine flag and head to the Customs dock, which is located on the Northeast corner of Ordnance Island and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Yachts entering between midnight and 8:00 a.m. will be directed to anchor in Powder Hole, where they must remain until Customs opens.
A Customs Officer normally clears all three departments and will board to process the forms required. (Documents will be supplied by the Officer.) A passenger tax of $15 for each person on board is required and can be paid in US or Bermuda Dollars.
Passports are required for entry for all visitors and returning residents.
After clearing Customs, yachts may travel elsewhere in Bermuda; yachters who don't stop here first will be fined.
