Going after game fish in the waters off Bermuda is a sport few fishermen can pass up. The beautiful Atlantic Ocean is home to many species including Grouper, Rockfish, Snapper , Tuna, Dolphin fish and more. Charter boats make daily full or half-day trips to the banks where fishermen can indulge themselves in trying to hook the big ones in the Wahoo and Tuna family. The Bermuda Triple Crown event held in July lures fisherman from all over; in fact the World Cup is part of the event and is a world-wide fishing tournament.
Fishing in Bermuda does not always require going out into the deep. There are many fishing spots that are popular to local fishermen on the docks in Hamilton Harbour, or on the North Shore, where it is possible to throw your line over and catch mostly medium sized fish. Local fishing buffs know exactly where to “chum” the waters for a good catch, and the locations are within close proximity to most hotels and guesthouses. Fly Fishing for Bonefish is a great way to spend the morning, afternoon or all day in the beautiful shallow, turquoise waters of Bermuda’s south shore. Bones can be caught every month of the year. Even when the water is a chilly 63 degrees, a bit of sun and the Bones come back to the shallows. They average in size between 6-12lbs. It is 100% release. Depending on the size and the line weight, you may receive a certificate, citation or silver pin for your fish.
