The Garden of Eden was an original paradise. The Garden of Eden was a Utopia. All was well as God planted His greatest work (mankind) in that beautiful place. Yet, in spite of being made perfect by the hand of God, sin entered into paradise. There was the serpent and the serpent introduced and induced sin into the heart and then into the lives of the inhabitants of that hallowed garden. That day the place of perfect peace gave way to a place where perfect peace was sought.
Hence, God sent His Son, Jesus, to come to earth. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Therefore, The King of Peace (God) sent The Prince of Peace (Jesus, His Son) to the earth to bring peace to all men. With this said, we must understand that the world will continue to seek peace but will not find peace until they find The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Luke 2: 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
We admire peacemakers. They are seen as heroes as they make every effort to usher in a season of peace. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was such a man who fought to bring about peace. Isn’t that something? We fight for peace. What a fight indeed!
Actually, in order to obtain peace, we should not have to fight. Instead, we should give up. Real peace is found when we give up our evil ways and receive the Prince of Peace into our hearts. We must give up our solutions to life’s struggles and give in to the solutions of the Prince of Peace. The peace by Jesus Christ is a wonderful peace, which you can possess in the midst of a storm. Now that is peace!
Summer of discontent
Bermuda is currently experiencing a summer of restlessness. There is so much going on and the lack of peace is more evident than before. There is political unrest, social unrest, and judicial unrest. The manifestation of this unrest supports that we are living in a time when peace is far from many.
This gives me the opportunity to let all know that The Prince of Peace, Jesus, is still the only remedy for the restlessness the island is experiencing. The truth is that even when Jesus walked the face of the earth, he was refused. Jesus, The Prince of Peace was hated, hunted, and horrifically murdered. Let us realize that even as we seek peace, there may be those who want to have nothing to do with peace. Let me be crystal clear. There will be those who want nothing to do with Jesus.
Resisting Jesus
Bermuda, any resistance to Jesus, will never change the fact that Jesus is The Prince of Peace. We may bring in consultants, advisers, intellectuals, and the like. They will never be able to usher in peace outside of Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, any person who offers peace without Jesus cannot succeed.
The best we can do in this world of more sin than ever before is offer Jesus. He is Peace beyond measure, and peace beyond the current restlessness in the island of Bermuda. I have nothing to offer but Jesus. In everything I say, write, and do, my prayer is to be able to introduce a restless soul to a caring and loving Saviour. I offer you, Jesus. Through Jesus we will know peace in our present world. Respice finem.
