Bermuda Community Profile

Despite the great differences implied by the diversity of the Bermudian community, living together on a tiny Island in the middle of the Atlantic makes for a community knit together in many ways more closely than most. Bermudians argue like cats and dogs a lot of the time, but when there’s trouble, as we’ve had in two bad hurricanes over the last few years, then the arguments are put aside and the good of the community comes first.
The weather’s not all we share. All Bermudians have a strong sense of charity – of compassion for others. When there is a crisis somewhere – as there was in the tsunami-hit communities of the Indian Ocean recently – Bermudians give more, per capita, than just about any other country in the world. It’s not just an outwardly-focused impulse, either. If a family in trouble here, a plea for help will generally bring friends, neighbours and strangers running to find out what they can do to help.
